How is Rotary going to fund the Bandshell Renovation?

The Rotary Club of Colorado Springs has committed to contributing $50,000 to get this project started and we will raise the remaining needed funds via private donations from individuals and organizations for community programs.

Save The 1914 Acacia Park Bandshell

Built in 1914, the bandshell has served as a central site for cultural and community events for over 110 years.

Current condition of the bandshell requires renovation to maintain its historical value and bring back its usability.

Bandshell History

  • 1871 – Block was platted as Acacia Park by the Colorado Springs Company
  • 1914 – Bandshell was erected designed by local architect Thomas P. Barber.
  • 1917 – A plaque commemorating Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address” was placed on the front wall of the building by the Woman’s Relief Corps of Colorado and Wyoming.
  • 1939, a 12’X40′ extension was built onto the bandshell.
  • 1940 – A concrete dance floor was installed and 2,500 people turned out for the first square dance in July.
